We repair wastewater pipes affected by ground movement, tree roots and vibration.

About our network repairs program

Our wastewater system includes a network of over 25,000 km of pipes. These range from 100 mm to 900 mm in diameter.

The system also includes structures like:

  • maintenance holes
  • lamp holes
  • junctions
  • reflux valves.

This large network of wastewater pipes and structures is underground, beneath roads, backyards and buildings.

Being underground, the network is subjected to ground movement, root invasion and vibration, which ultimately take their toll.

We regularly check our wastewater system for damage using closed circuit television. When we find cracked, collapsed or damaged sections, we may need to dig to repair them.

We complete thousands of jobs to repair our wastewater network throughout Sydney, the Illawarra and the Blue Mountains every year. These repairs keep our wastewater system operating effectively and help protect the environment and public health.

When working on private property, our contractor will prepare a home planwith the property owner or resident as a first step.

After the home plan is done, the work usually take a few days, but may take longer if the job is more complex. The work involves:

  • digging and excavating an area to expose the damaged wastewater pipe or structure
  • replacing or repairing the damaged infrastructure
  • restoring the site to its existing condition.

After we finish restoring the site, we'll ask the property owner or resident to sign the home plan to say that the work has been completed as previously agreed.

What’s a home plan?

A home plan is a written agreement, before work starts, between our contractor and the property owner or resident.

It outlines:

  • what the work is
  • how long the work should take
  • how the work will be done
  • specific details about the property that the property owner or resident wants to be taken into account while the work is being done - for example, we need to be aware of children or pets on the property, or special garden features
  • how the property will be restored.
